International
Volunteer Program
The
International Volunteer Program is a unique project that aims at promoting
volunteerism in Europe and the United States. For six weeks, through daily
cooperation with staffs of overseas organizations, volunteers learn how
others live and view the world. The International Volunteer Program was
instituted in 1991 by La SociÈtÈ FranÁaise de Bienfaisance Mutuelle with
the assistance and cooperation of the French Consulate in San Francisco,
the University of California at Irvine and le ComitÈ des Jumelages de
Troyes.
The International
Volunteer Program links cultural frontiers by allowing visitors to act
as as important volunteers and colleagues. This complete cultural immersion
helps to open new horizons and foster philanthropy on both community and
global levels.
In Europe and
in the United States, the International Volunteer Program has facilitated
this first-hand cultural understanding for hundreds of volunteers and
provided volunteer staffing for more than 100 non-for-profit organizations.
