Volunteer Opportunities Positions vary from home to home. Following are some of the standard volunteer positions. For an up-to-date list and more information, visit www·nph·org. Childcare Workers Caregivers provide for the children’s basic needs: waking them up, getting them ready for school, supervising their chores, helping them with homework, playing with them, going on excursions, putting them to bed and creating a family environment. Healthcare Workers Doctors, mid-level providers, nurses, pharmacists and physical therapists are urgently needed in all our homes. Responsibilities vary, but may include; caring for the children, filling prescriptions, treating patients from neighboring communities, organizing visits to specialists and ensuring that patients receive proper care. English Teachers Teachers are responsible for planning lessons and teaching classes. Must be able to work independently, be well organized and have strong classroom management skills. Tutors Resource room tutors work with children who need extra help academically. Must be patient, persistent and very flexible. Maintenance and Construction Repairs everything from shoes to washing machines. Helps with general construction at the home. Must work with local plumbers, electricians and construction crews. Home |
Family Correspondent Collects information about projects, writes articles and takes photographs. Distributes them to the international fundraising offices. Must have strong computer and writing skills and be creative. Social Workers Responsibilities vary, but may include; conducting home visits, maintaining files and documentation, and working on special projects. Social workers must have education or experience in social work, be fluent in the local language, be very patient and have an understanding and appreciation for different cultures. Successful Volunteers Successful volunteers are cooperative, flexible and patient. They have strong work ethics and are able to adapt to multi-cultural environments. NPH volunteers work with staff and volunteers from around the world. They are respectful of their host country and its culture, and have positive attitudes to share with the children. Applicati | |||
